The Building Sector consumes:

• 40% of the raw materials used globally each year - over 3 billion tons!

• 40% of the energy consumed in the world 

• 60% of the world's electrical consumption

• 25% of virgin wood

Other Impacts:

• Building emit about 50% of global C0₂ through construction and operation

• Cement production accounts for 8% of global GHG's

• A 10% increase in worker productivity would offset all office lease costs

Current practices have created too many inefficient and expensive buildings that represent a poor legacy for the next generation to inherit. The organizations and people that occupy buildings are starting to realize that their buildings should perform better.    

More sustainable buildings produce better quality environments both inside and out,  last longer by being more durable and adaptable, cost less to run and are a benefit to the community.  All this can be achieved using today's technology, often for little or nothing more than the (vacant) building next door.
