The ING Bank Head Office complex was designed to
take advantage of natural systems. The
result is a building that uses less than a tenth the energy of its
predecessor and a fifth that of a conventional new office building in
Amsterdam. The
project was built at a cost equal to that of a conventional office.
Although the original decision to pursue
this design philosophy was based on the expected energy savings,
the drop in absenteeism paid for the energy saving measures in 3
months.
